Payne named as Male Athlete of the Year – OCA

Avrey Payne was selected as the 2022-2023 Oklahoma Coaches Association Male Athlete of the Year. Payne’s list of athletic accomplishments continues to grow. Earlier this year, Payne was selected as an All-State Football player and also as an All-State Basketball Player. He was named the OCA / Jim Thorpe Oklahoma Male Basketball Player of the Year.

Payne will be playing in the All-State Football game on Friday, July 28, at Oklahoma Baptist University, in Shawnee. He will play as a wide receiver for the WEST squad.

Per Marlow Outlaw Athletics' social media page, Payne joins two other Outlaws who were previously named as OCA Male Athlete of the Year. Jace Gilbert was selected as the 2021-2022 recipient and Braeden O'Dell was recognized in 2015-2016.

This is quite an accomplishment for two consecutive Marlow athlete winners, and three Outlaws in the last seven years. Marlow looks to keep this tradition growing and adding more names in the future.

Payne is a 2023 MHS graduate and was one of the top three seniors in his class. He signed to play football at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. He is the son of Jason and Dana Payne.
