Car Club members enjoy ice cream, desserts and conversation

July 20, 2023

An annual event for the Duncan Antique Auto Car Club is the Ice Cream Social held in the summer at different club members homes. Judy and Orvel Robinson hosted the event on July 15, and have been gracious hosts for the past few years.

Dewayne Boyles, longtime member, said it is one of the oldest car clubs in the United States. It was organized in 1972. They have 44 members now, only recently losing three of them. Robinson has the oldest vehicle, a 1923 T-model, while most club members own cars from the 1950s-60s. Boyles said his car, a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air two door hard top is actually the most popular car ever built. He’s owned four and always looking for that next car.

It is one of the many outings the group takes throughout the year. A monthly business meeting which includes a potluck meal also keeps the group connected. The classic car owners also go out for a cruise each week on Thursday and dine together at an area restaurant. It keeps members together like a family. Car shows, parades, football homecomings ushering queen candidates around the field and traveling to swap meets are also regular events. This week, many of the members decided to travel to Branson, MO, for a night, and then to Springfield, IL for the annual Springfield Auto Swap Meet.

Attending this year’s ice cream social were Kay and Bob Hall, Dottie and Clinton Whitehead, Betty and Lloy Bradley, Sandy and Robert Gray, Steven Boyles, Robbie and Dan Eberhart, Dewayne Boyles, Stephanie and Jerry Kendall, Kay and Edgar Riggle, Freda and Roy Qualls, Diane Thomas, Addie McMurran, Grace and Ernie Enfield, Kay and Vincent Wasia and Sue and John Powell.
