Sunshine OHCE recognized for 100 years at State Conference
Group prepares for upcoming County Fair
Sunshine OHCE met on July 6, at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. Jane Mitchell was the hostess and gave a devotion from II Corinthians 10:5 which speaks of taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. We all were encouraged to not get stuck in negative thinking and decide to be a blessing to everyone you meet every day. There were 19 members present.
The thought for the day is "Every moment matters, including this one."
The upcoming Stephens County Fair was discussed along with our county OHCE fundraiser which is homemade "Pie by the Slice" The dates are August 16-19. Everyone in the county is encouraged to attend and enter things made in the past year.
There are many talented folks in our county, and we would love to see your creations, it is such an encouragement to others to see what can be made. Fair books containing entry categories and general fair information are available at the OSU Ext. office. Please contact them for information at 580-255-0510.
Jane Mitchell reported on the Project, "Summer Food and Fun" which Sunshine participated in the second week of June in conjunction with a state goal to address hunger. Breakfasts and lunches were provided for at risk youth as well as packaging food for children to be taken home.
Sixteen county OHCE members attended the State Conference in Oklahoma City July 9-11. We had the second largest number of attendees per county, surpassed only by Cleveland County and the second highest number of award applications and report books entered. Stephens County was well represented bringing home a 1st in the state in Leadership Development, (Sheila Ely); 1st in OHCE Week Project, (Sue Smith); 3rd in Healthy Living, (Jane Mitchell); 3rd in Resource Management, (Kay Gray). Sunshine also received an Honorable Mention for a local group report/project in the category of Membership Reports for Barn Quilts, (Linda Heilman).
Sunshine Group was recognized for 100 years of service as an active group, having been formed in 1922. It was a great time of learning and hearing how others are serving their local communities.
The next meeting is scheduled for August 3, to be held at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. If you would like more information about the Sunshine Group or OHCE, call the OSU Ext. office at 580-255-0510. Prospective members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
