Marlow FFA youth grow vegetables, attend camps during summer break

by Submitted by Marlow FFA

Members of the Marlow FFA chapter have been busy throughout the summer months participating in activities here in town, the state, and even the country.

Our chapter secretary, Maci Miller kicked off the summer by traveling to Washington D.C. to participate in the Washington Leadership Conference. "My favorite part of the trip was the community service project and seeing all the government buildings."

Next, eight of our chapter members attended the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Leadership conference where they were challenged to "link in" their leadership skills and implement them into the chapter this coming school year.

Three students, Mardi Scott, Rylie Evans and Emma Throckmorton participated in the OSU Big Three Field days judging livestock, preparing for the upcoming judging season.

Maci Miller and Billie Lewis have been caring for the raised gardens at the school all summer and have harvested several vegetables. They have plans to continue and grow their project this fall.

Emma and Avery Throckmorton participated in the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Amplify FFA Communications conference where they learned skills that will help them share events, activities and stories throughout the coming school year.

The officer team held their annual officer retreat where they took part in various leadership and team building activities as well as planned events for the upcoming school year. The first activity they will be participating in is feeding breakfast to the high school teachers and staff on the first day of professional in service, on August 7.
