Architect plans still waiting for final approval, bids set to begin on ARPA projects
Stephens County Commissioners heard from Ken Shaw in the July 31 meeting regarding current construction projects. Shaw is construction manager of the county ARPA projects, which include the fairgrounds expansion and the renovation of the Courthouse Annex. He said that the architect should have plans finalized by Wednesday, Aug. 2 for the Courthouse Annex building. Shaw said he would be ready to advertise the bid opening for that project and schedule the bid opening for three weeks from Monday (which could be Aug. 14).
In new business, County Emergency Manager, Gary Curtis shared his concerns over changes coming to his department regarding funding for the EMPG grant. Curtis said that the $40,000 matching grant must be used on salaries or the amount would be reduced. He was concerned that the amount currently being received is more than being spent on his salary. He would like to hire another deputy to avoid losing funding. After further discussion, more clarification is needed before any action is taken by the Board, according to the minutes provided to The Review.
Commissioners approved an application for permit - commercial right of way activity and roadway borings from Enerfin Gathering, LLC to erect, construct, and maintain a pipeline along, upon, or across said county highways or road(s) for the purpose of transporting, selling, and using natural gas to Sunray roadway approximately 1,500' east from the SW corner of Section 35, Township 1 South, Range 4 West in District #3.
Resolution #2023-117 was adopted approving a request from the Sheriff's Office to retire K-9 Josie from School Resource Officer duties and give possession to her handler, Rick Coberly.
Approved: Resale property fund financial statement as of June 30, 2023 as presented to the board by the treasurer, which included total reserves for expenditures: $1,401,539.63
Approved: Transfer of Appropriations within the Highway Fund. 1102-6-4300-2005, M&O, $500,000.00 to 1102-6-4300-4110, Capital Outlay, $500,000.00.
Fairground Rental Agreements approved:
New Zion Deliverance Church for church services to be held in the Winchester Room on various dates in the third quarter of 2023.
Lifeline Screening of America for a screening event to be held Aug. 30, in the Winchester Room.
County commissioners meet at 9:30 a.m. each Monday on the first floor of the county courthouse, unless closed for Federal Holiday or other emergencies per the board.
