Sunshine OHCE met June 6, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, Duncan hosted by Vicki Zimmerman and Tania Stout. Vice-president, Dana Womack called the meeting to order with 18 members and one guest, Marilou Tyson in attendance.

Linda Heilman reported that the County Membership Committee will have a free ice cream social on June 21, 6-8p at the Stephens County fairgrounds. The public is invited to come enjoy cookies and ice cream and learn more about Oklahoma Home and Education (OHCE) programs and join one of the four clubs in the county. Sandy Pogue reported the Leadership Development Committee held a Master Volunteer workshop in May with 20 members attending, 11 of those from the Sunshine Club. Tony Bess reported on the old cemetery tour held last month.

Ms. Bess stated that 10 county OHCE members and 5 non-members were in attendance. Ms. Heilman reported that the county OHCE garage sale resulted in $1709 donated to Charis Pregnancy Center and remainder of garage sale items were donated to the Toy Shop for their annual sale. Charis will have a community open house on September 29 from 2-4pm.

Flo Stuckert gave the Healthy Living report noting that each year, 3 million older people are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries. To reduce your fall risk, you need to do exercises that make your legs stronger and improve your balance. Ms. Stuckert led the group in a short exercise to strengthen the knees. Carol Hall shared with the group that she donated 16 privacy sheets for the Highway Patrol in Boise, Oklahoma to be used for car accident victims. She also donated numerous first aide supplies since officers purchase their own supplies.

Ms. Womack reminded members that County Council will be June 25 at 9:30 am at the county fairgrounds. Sunshine is hosting this event and members were asked to bring old cookbooks, rolling pins and other old kitchen items for decorations. Setup for council will be June 24 at 1pm. Also, pot luck lunch will be served and members were asked to bring the recipe for their dish to be shared with other members.

The workshop following council meeting will be Cake Decorating. This is open to the public.
