Sunshine OHCE report for February 2020

February 13, 2020

Seventeen members of Sunshine group met at the Charis Center on February 7. Kimberlee Treat, Charis Director led a tour of the facilities and explained the purpose of Charis. The Center has a Medical Director as well as a RN that oversee medical services like a free sonogram. There is not a cost for any of the services and Charis receives monetary donations from grants and the Stephens County community.

Ms. Treat also explained the educational classes offered. Recipients that attend classes receive "Baby Bucks" which they can redeem for such things as baby clothing, blankets/linens, car seats, diapers, and infant skin care products. Sunshine members also donated items for the new babies. Sunshine members have adopted Charis for their project for 2020. The business meeting was conducted after the tour at Jimmy's Egg. Linda Heilman, Treasurer, reported the donations are still coming in for the Lois Kramer Memorial Fund that will be used to help fund a school library in the village in Fiji. Ms. Kramer and other members of Sunshine traveled to Fiji in 2016 to help teach the girls at that village school how to sew.

Members then voted to send in a membership to the Stephens County Historical Museum. President Gina Flesher reported there would be an all day workshop, "Bridges Out of Poverty" that will be held on April 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Duncan. Cost is $100 a person and lunch will be served. Ms. Flesher asked members to help serve the lunch. West District (Southern Region) will have their annual OHCE meeting on March 27 at the First Baptist Church in Mustang. Registration is $20 and should be turned in to Ms. Heilman no later than OHCE Stephens County Council on February 25 at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. That meeting begins at 9:30am and Comanche Homemakers will serve as hostess. The workshop following the meeting will be "Cup Cake Decorating".

This is open to the public to attend. Call the Extension Office at 580-255-0510 for details. Gina Flesher then presented the Leader's Lesson on Healthy Hearts. Ms. Flesher emphasized that each of us should know these important numbers to manage a healthier life.
