Sunshine OHCE September 2020 report

Sunshine OHCE met on September 3, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church with Vickie Zimmerman hosting thirteen members. COVID precautions were observed. Vice President Dana Womack called the meeting to order. Minutes and treasure's report was given by Secretary Jane Mitchell. Donnita Hall reported on the Stephens County Fair held in August. She stated that there was poor attendance and many of the vendor booths were virtual. Six members reported they submitted items for judging in the fair and won ribbons. Sunshine member Sue Smith-Raska won 1st place on her cherry pie and 1st on her peach pie. She also won "Best of Show" for her peach pie and received the "Best Pie Maker" award.

Under new business, the group voted to assist Duncan Regional Hospitals Healthy Pathways committee with the Red Ribbon for Drug Free project by making the red ribbons for Duncan High School students. Members will meet on September 21, 2020 from 1-5pm at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Duncan to assemble the 1000 ribbons which will be distributed in October.

A new slate of officers for Sunshine will be presented to the group in October. Linda Heilman, past president, is chair of that committee. Flo Stuckert and Dana Womack will also serve. Anyone interested in running for an officer position should let Ms. Heilman know. Dues for the 2020-2021 year are due at the October meeting. The next meeting will be 9:30am, October 2, 2020 at Hat Top Lodge in Velma with Sandy Pogue, Sheila Ely, and Dan Womack serving as hostess. Jane Mitchell then presented the program, "Don't Just Sit There" for the members. Research linked sitting for long periods with a number of health concerns, like heart disease, over-productive pancreas and colon cancer. People who watched TV in an 8.5 year study had a 61 percent greater risk of dying than whose who watched less than one hour per day. If you have to sit often, try to do it correctly. As mom always said,, "Sit up straight".
