Sunshine OHCE report for Nov. 5, 2020

Sunshine OHCE met November 5, 2020 at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center hosted by Gina Flesher with 13 members attending. Covid 19 guidelines for socialization were in place. Guests were Sheila Houston, daughter of member Barbara Cox and Natalie and Nathan Womack, children of Dana Womack.

President Flesher read thank you notes from Charis for the donated items as well as one from Wichita Mountains Prevention Network, thanking Sunshine for making red ribbons for the Drug Free Awareness Week at the Duncan High School. A thank you note was also received from the OSU Foundation for the donation to the Ambassador Program. Sheila Houston also thanked the group for all the well wishes, cards, visits and flowers that were shared with her mother.

Linda Heilman reported that 20 members had paid their dues for 2021. Toni Bess, Cultural Enrichment, reported that members will be receiving a request in the mail to submit a report on "How COVID 19 impacted members and their family's lives?" This will be a statewide project and all Stephens County Members are asked to participate. Vicki Zimmerman stated that "Teaching Young Parents" program with Charis will be done in February 2021. Sue Raska-Smith showed the group the basket for the silent auction to be held at the Stephens County OHCE Council Meeting. The basket contained sewing and quilting items donated by Sandy Pogue, Ms. Heilman and Donnita Hall. The Council Meeting will be held November 17th at 9:30am at the Stephens County Fairgrounds.

Sunshine will be hosting the event and will decorate on 1pm November 16th. Sunshine members are asked to bring fall items to be used as decorations. President Flesher announced that health care workers at Duncan Regional Hospital are in need of bags to hold their eye protection. Ms. Flesher will share the directions for making them with anyone interested in helping to provide these. Sheila Ely made the motion to purchase fleece throws for 20-25 residents of Duncan Community Residence from the White Elephant Fund and each of the members to purchase a package of socks for each resident also. The motion carried. Ms. Flesher volunteered to embroider resident's names on the blankets. The group also will "adopt" Buzz, a local special needs resident and to bring cards of all types to be place in his blanket. Revised Volunteer Hours sheets have been distributed to the group for a pilot program. Input regarding the forms were also solicited. Sunshine members signed up for the following county committees:

The next Sunshine meeting with be 9:30am, December 10th at All Saints Episcopal Church. There will not be a pot-luck luncheon. V. Zimmerman presented the program, "Decorating for Family Celebrations" and provided handouts with illustrations. After the meeting several members toured the Chisholm Trail Historical Museum.
