Central High dominates scoreboard in home game against Bray-Doyle

From east to west, the Bray-Doyle Donkeys football team traveled to compete against Central High on its home turf. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to return home with a win. The Bronchos team came out victorious with a 76-28 win in the Sept. 1 battle.

BD’s Head Coach Wade Whatley said his team had made great strides from its first week to last week.

“They always say that the biggest growth you make is from week 1 to 2. We definitely got better from Maysville to Friday at Central,” Whatley said. “It is, however, not the best that we will get this year. We are still finding our ways on both sides of the ball and have yet to commit to being successful play-in-and-play-out. What we have found is that our kids know their rules, we just need time on the field to experience what these rules look like against another team with ambitions similar to ours.”

Whatley is optimistic moving forward, reminding the team and fans, that it is a work in progress. “If you saw us on Friday night, you can tell that we are getting better, but still need some time. Our quarterback Brody Whitney missed all week due to an illness and Friday was the first day he saw any action. Still, however, he completed several throws, connected with Rayden Crow for 3 touchdowns and was over 200 yards in the air and ran in a touchdown from 60 yards out. Those two guys have a lot of room to grow and a lot of passes to catch this year and next year. On defense, Caleb Carson played a good game for us as a linebacker and did the best he could to hold down the inside of Central's run game.”

This week is Bray’s home opener against Paoli, which is right before the BD’s bye week. Paoli beat Temple last week, Whatley said. “They have some really good-looking kids on film. Their quarterback and running back are well built, strong and aggressive with the ball in their hands. They will go from a double tight I formation into a single back wide receiver set. They play good on defense, having seen Temple in person, Paoli can keep up with their speed and do a good job of keeping containment.

“We're going to try and hit some quick routes and work on opening up the inside of the run game this week. It will be nice to open up the Donkey Dome this week and see our fans come home. Our two away games have been littered with Donkey fans and we are so proud to see the stands filled up behind us, the kids definitely appreciate the backing they get from our Stephens County home.”

Efforts to reach CH Head Coach Dusty Ketner were uneventful. CH travels to Tipton for this week’s game.
