Southern Fried Funeral offers plenty of laughs

Opening weekend of Southern Fried Funeral was a success, said Director Cindy Mann. The show opened at the Marlow Opera House Sept. 15-16, and the cast will return this Friday and Saturday for its final two performances.

"The first weekend was absolutely terrific, with a full house both nights! We are excited to be back in our favorite venue, The Marlow Opera House," Mann said. "The atmosphere is nostalgic and the kitchen area is perfect for serving free desserts at intermission."

Mann described "Southern Fried Funeral" a a hilarious family-friendly show. "Each character is unique but fit perfectly in their family and community. Everyone in the cast jumped right into their character. Maybe because we all have someone from our families to match each character!"

The cast includes quite a few unique individuals, many of them you know personally.

Ozella - Kassie Gilmore; Dorothy - April Templer; Uncle Dub - Jeff Beyer; Martha Ann - Karen Dean; Fairy June - Stacey Weddington; Benny Charles - Roy Grabman; Sammy Jo - Carra Spigner; Harlene - Karman VanOven; Atticus - Michael Ponce; Beecham - Jason Thompson; Dewey Jr - Jackson Schreiner; and Director- Cindy Mann and Co-Director-Beth Ann Hough.

"We look forward to seeing you and your family in Marlow. Chances are you will be able to "recognize" someone from your family gatherings," Mann said. Marlow Opera House is located on Second Street (look for the green door, behind the Marlow Mercantile!).

Southern Fried Funeral is a Duncan Little Theatre production, and is funded in part by OETA, Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment of Arts.
