Outlaws look for a win at Lone Grove this week

Marlow Coach Matt Weber was pleased with the 22-7 win against Pauls Valley on Friday, but didn't sugarcoat the issues of the first quarter.

"We were sloppy with our execution in the first half and I wasn't patient enough with the play calls," Weber said. "Second half we settled into running the football and throwing to keep the chains moving. Proud once again of our resilience coming back on a quality team."

Both teams walked onto the field at Outlaw Stadium Friday, with a 3-0 record. Marlow closed week four with a 4-0 record, leaving Pauls Valley 3-1. This is the fourth time for Marlow to start week 5, with 4-0 in its history, since 1988.

Starting out Friday night, Marlow had three turnovers that cost them potential touchdowns in the first quarter. Pauls Valley player Tanner Perry scored the first TD of the night in the 2nd at 0:47 on the clock. Just as the 2nd was ending, Marlow's Cade Gilbert (2) made a 37-yard field goal, enough to give Marlow 3 points on the board.

Returning to the field after half-time, Marlow's Hudson Morgan (15) ran for 2 and Gilbert's kick was successful, putting the team at 10-7 over Pauls Valley. In the 4th at 10:44 on the clock, Gilbert ran for 7, and the kick was a fail, but it still pushed the score up keeping Marlow in the lead at 16-7. With 2:30 left in the 4th, Morgan ran for 5 yards. Outlaws ended the game with a 22-7 win.

"Another great win against a district contender," Weber said. "Bad thing is in this district we don't get long to enjoy a quality win because we have another top team the next week."

It's on the road to Lone Grove this Friday. They are 3-1 for the season and another district contender.

"They (LG) absolutely dominated us in every phase last season. We know we will have to make major improvements this week to have a chance to beat them at their place. Our guys will set their minds to making those improvements," Weber said. Marlow won the last meeting against Lone Grove, 41-21, Sept. 21, 2022, per stat records. Lone Grove Coach is Curtis Cole, third season with a 15-7 record.

Homecoming next week the Outlaws will defend their territory against Dickson (currently 3-1), and has never lost to them. Homecoming events to start at 6 p.m. prior to the game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
