Marlow hoops each take sixth in holiday tournaments

PHOTOS: Players of the Week - Parker Boyles #33, Allye Haile #23

Parker scored 51 points during the Mustang Holiday Classic tournament. Breakdown: 16 pts in Mustang game, 21 pts in Seiling game and 14 in Southmoore match.

Haile scored 24 points in three games over the weekend of the Idabel Tournament. Breakdown: 2 pts in Bixby game, 20 pts in Idabel JV game, and 2 pts in Hooks, TX match.

Both Marlow varsity basketball teams played over the holiday.

The Outlaws took sixth at the Mustang Holiday Classic, taking losses to two red-hot shooting Class 6A clubs.

The Lady Outlaws also finished sixth at the Idabel Holiday Classic and faced the same fate against a Class 6A opponent.

Mustang 71, Outlaws 50

The Class 6A Broncos' shooting proved to be too much for the Outlaws to open tournament play. The Broncos combined for 13 made three-pointers in the 71-50 win.

Mustang started the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back. Freshman Tyson Pogi was the catalyst hitting 8 triples by himself.

Marlow was only outscored by 3 in the second half, but couldn't overcome the 34-17 halftime deficit.

Outlaws 55, Seiling 44

Three Outlaws scored in double figures as Marlow picked up the consolation semifinal win over #7 Seiling out of Class A.

After a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter, the Outlaws outpaced the Wildcats, 19-9, in the second frame to build a lead that would last. Marlow led by as much as 16 in the 3rd quarter before Seiling put together a 12-2 run. A technical foul on Seiling coach, and one-time Bray-Doyle coach, Eric Norton, stopped the run.

Southmoore 67, Outlaws 60

Despite a career game by Blayd Harris, the Outlaws could not overcome a barrage of 3-pointers by another Class 6A opponent.

The Sabercats knocked down 12 triples - 7 in the second half - to take 5th place in the tournament.

Marlow led only once, at 11-10, in the 1[st] quarter, before Southmoore opened the second frame on a 10-2 run to take a 29-18 lead. The Outlaws (4-3) stormed out of halftime on a 7-0 run and actually tied the game in the middle of the 4th 47-47. The Sabercats followed with four straight shots from long range to ultimately put the game away.

Bixby 57, Lady Outlaws 16

Scoring was at a premium for the Lady Outlaws, as the 6A Lady Spartans proved to be a superior match. The eventual runners-up of the tournament limited Marlow to just 9 points in the first half.

Lady Outlaws 78, Idabel JV

Friday's consolation semifinal was an easier task and the Lady Outlaws took advantage. The Lady Outlaws posted 23 points in the opening quarter to run away with the victory over the late addition to the tournament.

Marlow scoring: Haile 20, Lovett 16, Davis 12, Ottinger 9, Castle 9, Demi Hunt 6, Mylee Moore 4, Grace Lovelady 2.

Hooks TX 38, Lady Outlaws 33

Marlow came out hot, but Hooks came right back before half. Ottinger hit three 3's in the first quarter as part of a 13-point onslaught by the Lady Outlaws. However, another Ottinger triple proved to be the only points of the second quarter, allowing the Texas squad back in the game. Marlow would make a late rally that fell short.
