Area clubs prepare for county-wide meeting

Sunshine OHCE met Feb. 1 at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. Sue Smith and Jean Crow were the hostesses. There were 19 members present. Jean presented the devotional about "Joyous Gratitude" from Proverbs 31 Ministry, based on I Thessalonians 5:18.

Jerri Heilman reported that our group donated approximately 800 lbs. of food in 2023 for the Blessing Boxes in our county. We will continue our efforts to aid those who may find themselves food insufficient in 2024 by bringing food to each meeting to place in the boxes. In addition, we will be seeking approval for, at County Council later this month, a project entitled "Socks for the Homeless" to assist with homeless in our county. Members should plan to bring socks to each meeting as well towards this effort.

Members were reminded that there will be county county-wide meeting of all OHCE groups (County Council) on Feb. 27 at the Fairgrounds. Chris Deal will present a program on the homeless population in Stephens County. Also, members were encouraged to attend the District Meeting on March 19, in Hydro, Oklahoma.

There will be a beginner sewing class for anyone in the community who is interested on Feb. 24, 2024, 9 a.m. to noon at the Fairgrounds Conference Center. The fee is $20 and participants will be provided a pattern and expert instruction. Class attendees should bring fabric and supplies to make a table runner which will be completed during class to take home. Call OSU Extension for a complete list of needed items. Some sewing machines will be provided.

We would also like to announce two upcoming "Barn Quilt" classes to be held March 29 and 30. These are one-day classes. Call OSU Extension to reserve your spot. The public is encouraged to attend.

Following the meeting, Sheila Ely presented a program on Gratitude which included some suggestions for exercises we can each practice to cultivate an attitude of gratitude in our lives.

The next meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. March 7, at the Stephens Fairgrounds. If you would like more information about the Sunshine Group or OHCE, call the OSU Ext. office: 580-255-0510. Prospective members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
