LAWTON, Okla. - The Wichita Mountains Prevention Network (WMPN) attended CADCA's 34th annual National Leadership Forum Jan. 29-Feb. 1, in National Harbor, Maryland.

Brian Webb of Stephens County, had the opportunity to have face-to-face policy meetings with U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin and U.S. Representative Tom Cole.

CADCA, which stands for `Community-Based, Advocacy Focused, Data-Driven, Coalition-Building Association," is a nonprofit organization that is committed to creating safe, healthy, and drug-free communities globally. CADCA's National Leadership Forum is the premier training event for prevention professionals, community leaders, advocates, and experts to convene, share insights, and collaborate on innovative strategies to drive lasting and impactful community change.

"This trip really broadened our knowledge and gave us invaluable tools to use in our work," said Gina Olheiser, CBPS Coordinator for Stephens and Jefferson Counties. "We are excited to use what we learned to help make our communities a safer and healthier place to live."

There were hundreds of training topics to choose from, including sessions on youth engagement, emerging drug trends, coalition building, and working with parents. WMPN staff learned strategies for community engagement, substance misuse education for schools, working with law enforcement agencies, and better communication skills.

Outside of the conference, staff could tour museums and memorials in Washington D.C. and learn more about the nation's history.
