“We have won more tournaments in one year than we have in my previous seven. This is the first time that we broke 300. It is one of the most exciting years,” Brown said. “In our Class 3A, the top average is 307 and there’s a couple schools that on any given day, any one of those teams can win state. We talked about this the other day,” he said referencing a conversation he had with the team.

In year’s past, they competed against multiple private schools, many of which have moved up to 4A. Currently, the 3A competition includes Lone Grove, Community Christian, Metro Christian, Tishomingo, Lincoln Christian, Stigler, Kingston, Eufaula and Henryetta (top 10).

“That’s what is so exciting. In the past with so many private schools, you would just try, and if you were a public school, hope for 6th place, but now everyone has a shot.”

Wollenberg and McClure are the only seniors on this year’s team. McClure is a 4-year starter, went to State his freshman year and missed by two strokes. He returned to the State playoffs as a sophomore. Wollenberg is Brown’s most improved player, having gone from shooting in the 100s to the 70s.
