Patio Garden Club Hosts Flower Show
Members of Marlow Patio Garden Club recently held a National Garden Club small standard flower show. Held on Thursday, May 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Conway Hall in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The show was open to the public.
General rules/information sheets were recently supplied each entrant in the flower show.
Open to all National Garden Club members, emphasis was placed on the importance of using fresh cut plant materials and not artificial flowers or greenery.
Each exhibitor was limited to one entry per class with the exception of the horticultural division.
Plants were to be identified by their binominal name or it’s currently accepted scientific identification to be eligible for a Top Exhibitor Award.
There were several Divisions of competition:
Section A: Roses with two sets of five-leaflet leaves; Section B: Container grown plant: Section C: Cacti/Succulent, may be blooming: Section D: Arboreal Shrubs and Trees: Section E: Cut Specimens, Iris, Day Lily, Hydrangea, Wild Flower.
Winners in the Design categories were:
Splendor in the Grass – First Place, Melanie Spence; Second, Bettie Cooper; Third, Dina Atnip; Honorable Mention, Anne Bedbury (all members of Patio Garden Club)
Gulliver’s Travels: First, Erin Nash-Jones; Dina Atnip; Third, Lynnita Conway; Honorable Mention, Anne Bedbury (all of Patio Garden Club).
Breakfast at Tiffany’s: First, Shirley Johnston (Dahlia); Second, Mary Early (Late Bloomers of OKC); Honorable Mentions, Dina Atnip and Suzanne Buckley (both of Patio).
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner: (functional table for two) First Place and Design Excellent award, Judy Glover (Patio); Second, Dina Atnip (Patio); Third, Erin Nash-Jones (Patio); Honorable Mentions, Melanie Mason Spence (Patio & Dahlia) and Kimberly Davis (Dahlia).

Mrs. Cooper, president of Patio Garden Club, announced Lynnita Conway had garnered the most points during the flower show and was the sweepstakes award.
