Over $3,000 in Prizes Await Local Artists at 8th Annual Holiday Art Show & Sale

by Erin Woodard

Local artists have the opportunity to win over $3,000 in prize money at the Chisholm Trail Arts Council’s (CTAC) 8th Annual Holiday Art Show & Sale (HASS). The organization has officially launched its call for artists, anticipating a vibrant turnout featuring stunning artwork.
Last year’s event showcased the talents of 39 artists who submitted a total of 119 pieces, representing more than 12 different cities across Oklahoma and Texas. Each year, the level of talent displayed has exceeded expectations, and this year promises to deliver more of the same.
Judging the submissions will be Kristine Thueson, the Programming Director at the Arts Council in Wichita Falls, Texas. Thueson brings a wealth of experience, holding a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her distinguished career includes a focus on illustration, alongside fine arts and graphic design, and she has taught these subjects at multiple institutions while working as a freelance illustrator.
Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. To enter, there is a preregistration fee of $20 per piece, with a discounted rate of $15 for CTAC members. Cash prizes will be awarded, including a coveted overall Best of Show prize of $500. First, second, and third place awards will also be given in four categories: two-dimensional (oil and acrylic), two-dimensional (other mediums such as watercolor, graphite, and mixed media), three-dimensional works, and photography.
The awards and prize money will be presented at the opening night reception on November 7th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. This come-and-go event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at CTAC’s Art Gallery, located at 810 W. Walnut, Duncan.
