James “Jim” Maddox

James “Jim” Maddox, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017, in Oklahoma City at the age of 80.

Graveside services were held Monday, October 2, 2017, at the Shartel Church of God in Oklahoma City, with Rev. Ron Roddy and Rev. Eddie Coast officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan.

Jim was born Sunday, February 14, 1937, in Duncan, to James David and Minnie Ola Price Maddox. He graduated with Duncan Class of 1955. On May 19, 1960, Jim married the love of his life, Merrily Boyd, in Duncan. They were together for 53 wonderful years before Merrily passed in 2013. Jim worked for the Duncan Post Office for 28 years before retiring in 1987. After retirement, he worked at Burlington in loss prevention for several years, where he was known as “Santa” to everyone there. He was a member of Shartel Church of God and loved his church family like his own. He was also a part of Duncan Highlifters. Jim was an avid donor to the city rescue mission and was very involved in the Senior Center. He was a sports fanatic and loved his OU Sooners and OKC Thunder. Him also enjoyed playing bingo and canasta at his residence in Featherstone Assisted Living.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Merrily Maddox; his parents; his son, Rusty Maddox; and his sister, Patsy Maddox. We have peace in knowing that Him has now been reunited with his wife, son, and sister in Heaven.

He is survived by his son, Phillip Maddox; grandchildren, Ryan Maddox of OKC, Justin Maddox of Marlow, Jenae Murray and husband, Jarrod of McLoud, and Miranda Breeland and husband, Jason of Marlow; sister, Barbara Steely of Harrah; daughter-in-law, Lisa Liggett of Marlow; great-granchildren, Jacie Bennett, Payton Maddox, Bretlie Hyde, McKinna Hyde, and Jakeb Murray. He is also survived by a host of loving extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and friends.
