Financial audit results show no deficiencies; Calendar approved for next school year
At Marlow's Board of Education meeting Nov. 6, they heard results of the independent audit of finances. Superintendent Corey Holland said no deficiencies were shown or required improvements, "which is very good."
The report was presented by Bledsoe, Hewett and Gullekson Certified Public Accountants, LLP.
"The board also approved bids for lights, sound and curtain for the new performing arts center," said Holland. "The 11 bids for packages 1-3 for Phase 2B Bond Projects were presented by Van Storm with Joe D. Hall, G.C., LLC Construction Manager at Risk. Bid package 1 for Audio Visual was awarded to Audio Vision. Bid package 2 for Theatrical Lighting was awarded to Audio Vision. Bid package 3 for Stage Curtains and Rigging was awarded to Associated Theatrical."
Also at the top of the board's list was approving the school calendar for the 2024-25 school year, and the board meeting dates and times for 2024. Those dates are: January 8, February 8, March 7, April 8, May 6, June 6, and June 27, August 8, September 5, October 7, November 7 and December 5. The final school day of the 2023-24 school year is May 22, and graduation is May 23. Upcoming 2024 days off (professional) and snow days are set for: Jan. 2, Jan 20, Feb. 14, Feb. 28, March 7, (spring break is Mary 17-21), April 4 and April 18, May 9 and May 16, and May 23.
It was also noted in the Marlow High School report provided by Principal Bryan Brantley, that the MHS Academic Team won 1st place at the district tournament in Chickasha on Oct. 10. The team, led by teacher Beverly Cramton defeated both Chickasha and Anadarko by over 100 points in each game. They competed in regional tournament Nov. 11 in Newcastle. All other items were approved, including employing Amber Dumas as elementary custodian for the remainder of the school year. Other items approved: transfer of $8,621.35 from the Child Nutrition Activity Fund to the Child Nutrition Fund for the 2023-24 school year; and renewal of the 25-year lease agreement with the City of Marlow for leasing property at 407 W. Seminole at the cost of $10 per year.
