Free Thanksgiving Meal Continues in Marlow
If you are needing a dinner for Thanksgiving, then all you need do is head to the Life Center at Marlow First (First Baptist Church) on Thanksgiving Day.
Anywhere from 40 to 50 or more volunteers will be cooking, baking, serving and delivering the meals to anyone who needs one. The annual Community Thanksgiving Day dinner started in 1996 at the First Christian Church. In 2005, the dinner was moved to First Baptist.
Each year, about 1,000 meals are served. This includes deliveries to homebound residents and to the Stephens County Jail.
Serving will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 23.
Pam Spurlock is one of many individuals who volunteers to help spread the word and prepare the food. She said much of it is made the day before, and then baking turkeys starts around 4 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.
This year's menu includes the turkey, dressing, ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce and a wide variety of desserts.
